Please and Thank You when you ask,
enough trust to ask just one time.
Let the family enjoy their meal,
before you ask for seconds is truly kind.
Ask good questions, listen well,
take an interest in someone and their day.
Be slow to speak and quick to hear,
and invested in the conversation stay.
If the food is not your favorite,
refrain from saying so.
Choose contentment over and over,
for there seeds of gratitude you will sow.
Laugh lots, sing together,
the family table is the place.
Where joys and sorrows freely flow,
the air of conversation is the Spirit and his grace.
The years go by meal after meal,
The high chairs are no more.
Mom and Dad start to wrinkle,
and little legs touch the floor.
We hope our Savior will be more treasured,
around this table every year.
The love of God and all his goodness,
bringing more and more gospel cheer.
Food, story-telling, or just sitting quietly in thought,
each is a cure for weariness, sadness, and fear.
Blessings that our Lord has wrought.
