Peaceful Chaos

Sometimes the constant noise,

and chatter in our home.

Makes me want to grab ear plugs,

run away and be alone.

Chaos, talking, questions,

needs, demands on my space & time.

How can I keep on going,

at this pace and constant grind?

But then counsel from an older friend,

and another also brings a word.

“One day it will be quiet,

and you’ll miss your little herd.”

Instead of going on a walk,

to seek quiet and clear your mind.

You’ll walk with hopes for company,

maybe a purpose outside to find.

You’ll miss the clanging and the ruckus,

and silence and emptiness will give way.

Thank goodness for their wisdom,

I needed perspective without delay.

I need a home filled with voices,

it’s a sign of life and treasure around.

For even in the cacophony,

peace and joy can still be found.

I will soak it in, I will redeem it,

embrace it with discernment by my side.

How can I serve the commotion today,

with a light heart and arms open wide?

They are my purpose and God’s gift,

even in chaos I can feel his peace.

And though one day they will be gone,

Lord your grace will never cease.

In the gongs of my children’s voices,

and in the whispery season of calm.

Thank you for your faithfulness Lord,

your promises forever are my balm.
