No, Not Today

Don’t creep in my mind,

no, no, not today.

Fickle heart and Satan,

you’d best be on your way.

You are taking my acts of service,

making them drudgery instead.

My joy to do what I love,

and turning it on it’s head.

My excitement to serve now bitterness,

a labor of love turned to regret.

Lord, restore to me my joy,

gratitude, & beauty I won’t forget.

Give me hope, and humility,

to bitterness tightly bolt the door.

No, not today Satan,

your temptations I deplore.

The armor of God defends me,

firmly I shall stand.

The belt of truth, the breastplate,

the gospel of peace is in my hand.

The shield of faith, the helmet,

the sword of the Spirit is your word.

Praying, keeping alert,

extinguishing darts that are absurd.

No, I won’t give in today,

for I belong to the King instead.

A king who’s heal was bruised,

but who crushed the serpent’s head.

You have no power here now,

get behind me, you can leave.

For Jesus’ wounds have freed me,

in him I trust and believe.

Ephesians 6:12-13

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
