I see your faults and weaknesses,
the mess you leave around.
Your quirks and insufficiency,
there is ample muck that can be found.
I see you’re clumsy and lazy,
selfish and filled with pride.
Your blind spots in so many areas,
in our home it’s hard to hide.
I see how you struggle,
I see your sins besetting.
Yet, I love you anyway,
in this I have no regretting.
Love is not merely an emotion,
but a decision that I will stay.
My commitment to you overriding,
any confusion that is in play.
Any heated arguments, disagreements,
or blame that is transferred.
Even when you don’t like me,
I refuse to let pride get the last word.
Staying, loving, immovable,
grabbing my anchor when it gets tough.
And my past commitment vows,
are what need to be enough.
The vows are what keep us,
not the other way around.
I will never let you push me away,
no matter how bleak our present found.
I’ll love and stay, I’ll die and pray,
I’ll choose the better route.
I won’t give up, I will not quit,
my love for you is never in doubt.
For I see you and I love you,
and I see the horizon where you’ll be.
Conformed, sanctified, made new,
reaching the peak of your glory.
I want to carry you through the journey,
and stay with you until the end.
I will hold your hand and heart,
this is one promise I’ll extend.
The gospel explains marriage,
marriage explains gospel love and grace.
When God invented marriage,
he already had his saving work in place.
While we were enemies of God,
still sinners, ungodly, and weak.
At the right time Jesus died for us,
his reconciliation now what we speak.
This kind of love fuels our marriages,
loving despite what we feel.
We who were hating & running from God,
have been loved with a love fierce & real.
Replace all the above with “God”,
and see exactly how God relates to you.
He loves, He stays, He died, He prays,
for those in Jesus this is all true.
